A personal note from Melinda:

I’ve called Bowling Green home my entire life. My previous service on the City Commission was an opportunity to give back to the incredible community that has blessed my life so deeply. I have also had the privilege of serving the Commonwealth for three years in Frankfort. I look forward to the opportunity to again serve Bowling Green!

Melinda Hill is a native of Warren County and a graduate of Warren East High School. She earned her undergraduate degree in accounting from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, and her Masters in Business Administration from Western Kentucky University.

Melinda resides in Bowling Green and has two children. Her daughter, Hilary, and her son in-law Chris, are both doctors in Birmingham, AL and they have a beautiful daughter Adley. Her son, Thomas, is owner of Mosquito Zero in Bowling Green KY.

Bowling Green is in the midst of uncharted waters created by the COVID-19 virus. The financial crisis it has created affects all of us. For the rest of 2020 and beyond, our city will have to continue to mitigate these financial difficulties while still providing essential services for its citizens.

Being a Commissioner means making public policy, providing strategic direction for the City, overseeing city management and reviewing and approving the city budget.

For over 20 years, I have worked directly in the areas of economic development, community relations, education/training and leadership.

I have eight years experience in providing senior leadership to local and state governments in accomplishing their goals. As City Commissioner from 2011-2016, I know what it takes to successfully lead the city. I look forward to the challenge of doing so again for the 2020-2022 term!

Melinda Hill has been providing senior leadership to our city and state for many years. Electing Melinda will ensure the City is in good hands going forward.

During her 2011-2016 tenure on the Commission, Hill was a Bowling Green City Commissioner and two-time Mayor Pro Tem who, in addition to her responsibility for oversight of city management for this 67,000 person city, worked diligently for the citizens to:

  • Make public policy and strategic direction for the City
  • Ensure taxes were not raised
  • Keep the City’s “rainy day fund” fully funded
  • Lead the Board of Commissioner’s in the Mayor’s absence
  • Review and approve the City budget

During this time, Melinda also served the community on these boards:

  • Sloan Convention Center Board Chairperson (2013-2016)
  • ITA Board of Directors (2013-2016)
  • Job Development Incentive Program (JDIP) Chairperson (2013-2016)

In addition to her city government leadership, Melinda is proud to have served the Commonwealth of Kentucky – initially as the Deputy Commissioner in the Department of Revenue, and later as the Chief of Staff for the Finance and Administration Cabinet.

As Chief of Staff, Melinda was responsible for oversight of over 1,500 employees in ten departments. She had the honor of representing the Finance and Administration Cabinet on a number of influential state committees:

  • KY Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA)
  • KY Housing Authority (KRA)
  • State Investment Commission (SIC)
  • KY River Authority (KRA)
  • KY State Property and Buildings Commission (KSPBC)
  • KY Asset/Liability Commission (ALCo)
  • KY Commission on Military Affairs (KCMA)
